The West Virginia Women’s Tennis Club was handed a tough loss Sunday afternoon as they were defeated in a 4-2 decision against Kansas State at Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown. West Virginia earned the doubles point thanks to stellar performances from senior Michaela Kucharova and freshman Laura Villanuava Morillo in the No. 2 seed match where they were victorious 6-2.
West Virginia earned a point as senior Mille Haagensen and graduate student Julie Bousseau prevailed in the No.1 spot with a 6-4 victory. Kansas State claimed victory in the first two matches in singles play to take a 2-1 lead. West Virginia would roar back and answer with a victory of their own from Mille Haagensen in the No.1 spot to tie the match at 2-2.

Kansas State would go on to win the next two singles matches with victories from Maria Santos over Maja Dodik (6-3) and Veronika Kulhava over Laura Villanueva Morillo (6-2) to secure the victory for the Wildcats. The Mountaineers’ current overall record sits at 6-9, and are winless in Big 12 competition (0-4). West Virginia currently sits in last place in the Big 12 Conference.

West Virginia looks to shake off today’s tough loss and rebound against two more Big 12 opponents as they travel to Tempe Arizona to take on the Sun Devils of Arizona State on March 14th. Arizona State has an overall record of 8-4 and are 3-1 in Big 12 competition. The Mountaineers will continue the roadtrip and travel to Tucson to take on the Arizona Wildcats on Sunday March 16th. The Wildcats have an overall record of 10-5 and are 2-1 against the Big 12.
