WVU volleyball Head Coach Jen Greeny talks about newly-released Big 12 schedule

West Virginia University Volleyball’s 2025 Big 12 Volleyball schedule was unveiled Monday, with details about 18 conference matchups being revealed. Read more WVU volleyball head coach Jen Greeny talks about newly-released Big 12 schedule below.

Head Coach Jen Greeny touched on the WVU schedule, first and foremost by saying the travel situation is to their liking.

“I think we’re excited about the schedule. It’s pretty conducive to what we would like to see just travel-wise, because the Big 12 conference has expanded so much, so I think it’s a pretty good schedule as far as travel goes, we’re not going back and forth into different time zones too much, so that’s great.” Greeny said. “And, pretty fair also as far as home and away matches. So, yeah at first glance it looks good.”

The season opens up with a short trip to Cincinnati on Sept. 27, before a homestand which will see them host Kansas State (Oct. 1) and BYU (Oct. 3) as well as their second of two games against the Bearcats on Oct. 8.

Greeny’s team will then have three games on the road after that, starting with a game on Oct. 16 at UCF, followed by an Oct. 16. matchup against Iowa State, before capping off the road trip on Oct. 18. at Colorado.

New Additions

Greeny touched on the dynamic of her having faced some of the new additions to the Big 12 back when she was head coach at Washington State, having some familiarity with players and coaches she’ll face.

“I think for me as a coach, it just lends a little bit of familiarity as far as, if we’re traveling to those places, I’ve been to those places many times, or have coached against those coaches and are more familiar with their systems and things like that, maybe not an advantage, but just being familiar with those teams and coaches.” And then we also now have another one because Kansas hired the coach that was at Oregon. So it kind of adds to that as well.”

West Virginia will then return home to face Utah (Oct. 24), Houston (Oct. 30) and Kansas (Nov. 1).  WVU will head to Texas after this, starting with a Nov. 7 showdown against Baylor, before facing TCU two days later. West Virginia will wrap up their trip to the Lone Star State with a Nov. 12 matchup against Texas Tech.

The final homestand of 2025 will commence Nov. 14 against UCF, before facing Colorado on Nov. 19 and Iowa State on Nov. 21. The regular season will then conclude with a trip to Arizona, as WVU will face the Arizona Wildcats on Nov. 26 and Arizona State on Nov. 29.

Greeny added that WVU fans looking to attend games will have an advantageous deal on offer, stating “We are going to have season tickets on sale for the first time ever at West Virginia. Fans [need] to be on the lookout for those, it’ll be hopefully early summer. But it’ll be a great economic price for season tickets and along with that they’ll get a couple of meet and greets with the team and chalk talk, so kind of some extra benefits, that’s something we’re very excited about.”

The Mountaineers will have nine away contests as well as nine in Morgantown, as they’ll look to improve on their 2024 record of 8-21 and 2-16 in the Big 12.
