Morgantown W.Va.- The West Virginia Women’s Tennis Club suffered another tough conference loss at Summit Tennis Academy In Morgantown Sunday afternoon, as they were defeated in their final home matchup of the season to the Colorado Buffaloes by a 4-1 decision. Today’s matchup also marked WVU Tennis’ Senior day.
Colorado Prevails Despite WVU’s Strong Effort
West Virginia’s start was encouraging as they battled Colorado in doubles play. The pairing of senior Mille Haagensen and graduate student Julie Bousseau faced the top-60 pairing in the No. 1 seed match, however, Haagensen and Bousseau were defeated by a 6-4 decision.
Colorado was able to secure the doubles point with a victory in the No. 3 spot.

Kucharova’s Stellar Performance
Senior Michaela Kucharova picked up a magnificent victory in the No. 3 seed match in singles play. Kucharova defeated Colorado’s Ema Bubalo by decisions of 6-2, 5-7, 6-2. Kucharova was the only Mountaineer to secure a victory in singles play.
Colorado Secures Victory Over West Virginia
Colorado looked to clinch the match in the No. 4 spot after winning the No.1 and No.2 seed matches. West Virginia Freshman Lyla Byers would go on to win the first set, 7-6 (5). Despite the victory, Byers was defeated in the next two sets, sealing Colorado’s victory.

West Virginia Vs Cincinnati Preview
With Today’s loss, West Virginia falls to a 7-16 record on the season with a conference record of 1-11. The Mountaineers currently sit in last place in the Big 12 Conference.
The Mountaineers look to finish their season on a high note as they will travel to Cincinnati to face-off against the Bearcats on Saturday February 12, at noon.
The Bearcats currently sit in 14th place in the Big 12 Conference with an overall record of 9-11, and a conference record of 2-10.
The Bearcats have won two of their last three matchups with a 7-0 victory over NKU on April 2nd, a 5-1 victory over Colorado on April 4th, and a 4-0 loss against Texas Tech today in Cincinnati.
The Bearcats will face Dayton on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Cincinnati before their matchup against West Virginia.
