COLUMBUS, Ohio (April 1, 2025) – The West Virginia University baseball team defeated Ohio State, 9-6, Tuesday evening at Bill Davis Stadium. The Mountaineers improve to 23-4 while the Buckeyes fall to 8-17. View season stats here
Junior Logan Sauve went 3-for-3 with two walks and three RBI. He has now reached base in 10 straight plate appearances over the last two games. Sophomore Spencer Barnett drove in two runs while junior Skylar King had two hits, a stolen base and scored three runs.
Sophomore Armani Guzman did not have any hits on the night but made the defensive play of the season, robbing a home run in right field before doubling off the runner at first.
Ohio State took an early lead with a solo home run in the first before senior Brodie Kresser scored on a wild pitch to even up the game in the second.

The Buckeyes hit another solo home in the bottom of the second, but once again, the Mountaineers tied up the game the next half inning as Sauve had an RBI single.
West Virginia took the lead with a four-run fourth inning, getting two-run singles from both Barnett and Sauve. Ohio State got two runs back in the home half before redshirt junior Chase Swain poked an RBI single the other way in the fifth to extend the lead back to three.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Buckeyes got the leadoff guy on, but Guzman squashed any rally as he raced back to the wall on a ball hit by Ryan Miller, leaped above the wall to make the catch and fired back on the fly to first to double off the runner.
In the sixth, the Mountaineers scored two runs without a hit, reaping the benefit of four walks, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly.
Senior Reese Bassinger finished off the game with 5.1 innings while allowing just two runs and striking out two to earn his fourth save of the season. View box score here
West Virginia will be back home on Wednesday evening to face Pitt in the Backyard Brawl. First pitch from Kendrick Family Ballpark is set for 6:30 p.m.
