West Virginia Tennis Drops First Big 12 Matchup of the Season

The West Virginia University tennis team dropped its first Big 12 matchup of the season, falling 0-4 to No. 41 TCU (6-3, 1-0 Big 12) on Friday night at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center & Bartzen Varsity Courts in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Mountaineers (6-6, 1-0 Big 12) fell behind early in the doubles, as their No. 1 duo of Millie Haagensen and Lyla Byers lost 6-1 to the TCU No. 24 ranked tandem of Jade Otway and Isabel Pascual, followed by a 6-2 loss in the No. 3 matchup by Julie Bousseau and Tatiana Lipatova to the Horned Frogs pairing of Raquel Caballero and Tomi Main.

TCU extended their lead to start the singles, as the No. 3 singles went to Pascual in a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Maja Dodik. This lead was further added to in the No. 6 matchup when Cayetta Gay scored a 6-1, 6-2 win against Susannah Su. 

Clinching it at the No. 4 slot, Yu-Chin Tsai won 6-2, 6-2 against Laura Villanueva Morillo, securing a 4-0 win for TCU.

The Mountaineers are back in action shortly after with a 4 p.m. Saturday starts against No. 14 Baylor at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
