MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s tennis team earned its second Big 12 Conference win of the season, defeating the Cincinnati Bearcats, 4-2, at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center in Cincinnati on Saturday.

West Virginia’s two conference victories have come on the road this year, marking the first time the Mountaineers have won multiple conference road matches in one season since joining the Big 12. West Virginia (8-16, 2-11 Big 12) has also won multiple Big 12 matches in consecutive seasons for the first time since joining the conference.

West Virginia jumped out to a 1-0 lead after tremendous play in doubles. The pairing of senior Michaela Kucharova and freshman Laura Villanueva Morillo earned their team-leading ninth win of the season. The doubles team comprised of freshman Lyla Byers and senior Tatiana Lipatova clinched the doubles point in the No. 3 seed match, winning 6-2.

Lipatova began singles play by picking up a win for WVU in the No. 6 seed match. She defeated Callie Flanagan, 6-0, 6-2.

Back-to-back wins by the Bearcats tied the match with three singles matches remaining. WVU retook the lead after Villanueva Morillo won in the No. 5 spot, 7-5, 7-6 (0).

Kucharova clinched the match for the Mountaineers as she won the No. 3 seed match, 7-5, 3-6, 6-1. View box score here

West Virginia will compete in the 2025 Big 12 Tennis Championship on Wednesday, April 16. West Virginia’s opponent has yet to be determined.
