Mountaineers Finish Dalton Ebanks Invitational with Two Event Wins

Day two of the Dalton Ebanks Invitational, held inside the George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Virginia, is complete. Recap of Day One 

Many personal bests were achieved on day one of the Dalton Ebanks Invitational. Lily Haught notched a personal best of 1:01.54, earning second place.  

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Zara Zervos collected a personal record time of 11:16.85, finishing third. 

The last career best performance of the day was achieved by Sabria Jones, in the long jump. She placed fourth with a distance of 5.70-meters.

Day 2 – First Event Win 

Lily Haught, sophomore, earned the first event win of the day in the women’s 400 meters. She placed first while also achieving a personal best time of 55.03 seconds.  

Also in the 400 meters, teammates Izayah Everett and Cate Pickering earned personal record times.  

Second Event Win 

The second event win of the evening came during the 4×400 meter relay. Pickering and Haught, along with Carlene Temple and Kishay Rowe were the team that came out on top with a time of 3:46.43. 

Sierra Hiesey (a redshirt junior) had her college debut in the 100-meter dash, finishing with a time of 12.72.  

WVU’s History at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational 

In the 2023-24 season, the Mountaineers also found success at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational. 

Annishka McDonald finished second overall in the women’s high jump at 1.68 meters, while Abigale Mullings followed closely behind at 1.63 meters.  

Zervos boasted a personal best in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:29.28 to secure fifth place. Haught had her outdoor debut in the women’s 200-meters, starting out with a time of 25.62. 

To wrap up their second day at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational, Haught had another impressive day, placing sixth in the women’s 400-meters.  

In the women’s 1,500 meters, Emily Bryce ran for a time of 4:36.61 to finish sixth overall.  

Next Up for the Mountaineers 

The Mountaineers will travel to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania next weekend, April 12th-14th, to participate in the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell at the Christy Mathewson Memorial Stadium.  

With only a two day break in between, the Mountaineers will head to Azusa, California on April 16th to participate in the Bryan Clay Invitational. This event will be held in the Cougar Athletic Stadium through April 18th.

History at the Bison Outdoor Classic 

Almost a year ago to the day, the Mountaineers traveled to participate in the Bison Outdoor Classic. In the 2023-24 season, the Mountaineers had a split weekend competition. They participated in the Bison Outdoor Classic along with the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California.  

Cassandra Williamson added the fastest time all season for a Mountaineer in the women’s 400-meter race at the 56.37 mark. 

In the 1,500-meter invitational, Tatiana Moura ran for a time of 4:39.46. Teammate Aubrie Custer etched a mark of 4:59.82 to achieve a personal best.  

The 23-24 Bison Outdoor Classic was highlighted by Bryce and Eva Rinker, who ran for times of 2:16.86 and 2:17.29, respectively.
