PROVO, Utah (March 27, 2025) – The West Virginia University baseball team dropped its series opener to BYU, 14-5, Thursday night from Miller Park. The Mountaineers fall to 20-4 overall and 2-3 in the Big 12 while the Cougars improve to 14-9 and 4-3 in conference play. View season stats here

 

The Mountaineers jumped out to a lead in the second inning, scoring four runs with two outs as redshirt junior Chase Swain delivered a two-run single and senior Brodie Kresser had a two-run double.

 

It was all Cougars after that as they scored one in the second and third before taking the lead with six runs in the fifth, five of which were unearned. BYU then added a run in the sixth, two in the seventh, and three in the eighth to put the game away.

The two teams will meet again on Friday for game two of the series with first pitch scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.
