Around the Big 12: Sun Devils Pick Up League Win
Ben Jacobs struck out 11 hitters over 6.1 innings of work, and Arizona State claimed its 12th Big 12 win of the year. The Sun Devils took the first game of their series with BYU, winning 8-3 on Thursday.
Matt King continued to batter opposing pitching for the Sun Devils, driving in three runs off two hits. For the year, King ranks third in the Big 12 in batting average, hitting .394. The Sun Devils now sit a half-game back of second place in the Big 12, and they could earn sole possession of first if they can complete the sweep of the Cougars over the weekend.
BYU struck early, scoring a run off a Cooper Vest single and taking a quick 2-0 lead. But that was all the Cougars got off Jacobs, who earned his third win of the season. The Cougars had trouble all night getting good swings, striking out 16 times in the contest.
Kyle Walker and Jax Ryan both had multi-hit games for Arizona State. BYU hurt its cause by committing three errors, leading to two unearned runs. The teams play the second game of their series on Friday evening in Phoenix.

Wildcats Power Past Mavericks
Brendan Summerhill and Adonys Guzman both homered in the bottom of the first inning, and Arizona overcame an early deficit against Texas-Arlington. The Wildcats scored five runs in their half of the inning, cruising to a 9-1 win over the Mavericks in Tucson.

Summerhill and Guzman both had a home run and a double in the victory, as Arizona pounded eight extra-base hits. Tommy Splaine joined the home run parade in the fifth, and Summerhill followed with an RBI double for the final run of the game.
Cade Dodson managed three hits for Texas-Arlington, but the rest of the Mavericks scratched out a mere two hits all night. Bryce McKnight picked up the win for the Wildcats after pitching two scoreless innings in relief. Starter Raul Garayzar lasted the longest, allowing one run in three innings. The Wildcats travel to Lubbock to face Texas Tech in this weekend’s series.
Bearcats Run-Rule Milwaukee
Christian Mitchelle tripled and drove in three runs, and Cincinnati gradually wore down Milwaukee at home on Wednesday. The Bearcats ended up victorious via the run rule, beating the Panthers 14-4 in eight innings.

Cincinnati took full advantage of poor control by Milwaukee’s pitchers, working out eight walks in the contest. Landyn Vidourek and Cal Sefcik both scored three runs and both drove in a pair of runs themselves. Vidourek scored two off a double, while Sefcik homered in the third and singled in the sixth.
Carson Marsh struggled on the mound for the Bearcats, allowing three runs in 1.1 innings of work. Cincinnati got fine work out of the bullpen from Hudson Johnson and Adam Mrakitsch, who held the Panthers to just one run over the rest of the night. The Bearcats host Oklahoma State this weekend.
